The compassion distance brings

IMG_2096I’ve really enjoyed writing these blogs…the cathartic nature of sharing what’s on my mind is so cleansing and it brings the feeling that I’m slowly revealing more of myself to the world. In a nutshell, I have found it to be a bloody brilliant experience so far.

On most of these posts, I’ve recorded a short (or not so short!) video to explain a bit about what I’ve been experiencing. I’ve done this as I feel I can often be more eloquent and can express myself more fully by talking. What has surprised me is that the recordings have brought something else into my life which was unexpected though…that is viewing myself with more compassion.

I’m not 100% sure why this is, but as I have explored in the short recording below, I suspect it could be because I’m viewing myself more objectively and the ego voice* in my head pipes down a little bit when I have some distance from myself through the camera lens.

*The Ego Voice, you know the one. The voice that puts you down when you do something silly or that points out all your flaws to you when you’re doing something scary and new

The real question for me is how I can reconcile the Amy I view with compassion on the screen with the Amy who is so often stifled by the ego voice in her head. I know I can do it, I just haven’t quite figured it out yet…
